GAE's or Krugs??

I know this question will be greeted with groans by those who have been here a while, but let me ask another "white belt" question. As I have said I have a couple of grand FRN to purchase my 1st PMs & I want to maximize my limited funds. The GAE is just PURTYand I want at least one of them!!

But, can I reasonably expect to recover the $35-40 premium that each GAE has over a Krug?? Should I get my ONE GAE & the balance in Krugs??

BTW, my reason for buying is nervousness over the economy & desire to have at least a small LAST DITCH "wealth preserver".

Thanks, Bill.

Get the most gold for your money = krugerrands. They are known the world over and liquidity is not a problem.

Having said that, GAEs are also easily liquidated, and the premium you pay, you usually also get back when you sell.

I agree with j-son. Personally, with $2K and a penchant for Au, I'd pick up the following wishlist:

1/10 GAE
1/2 GAE
1/2 Krug
1oz Krug

Here's some salt...

I agree with this, get the 5-10 most common 1oz coins and then when you start investing more seriously in Au, you already know which ones you like.

is $18 a good price for generic SAE? I just called my local coin shop and that's the quote he gave me today.

Talk about paying a premium!

I just went to Apmex and divided Apmex buy by sell price for Krugs and Eagles to see the spreads. For Eagles it was .979 and Krugs .981, indicating a razor thin edge for Krugs.

Of course .002 is pretty much insignificant, buy what you want.

Would any guy want his first sexual experience to be with an ugly dumpy looking broad...or the pretty one?
It's a metaphor...figure it out!

Re: GAE's or Krugs??

I'd go with Canadian Maples. I dig the .9999 purity. I have a GAE and a Krug. 22K gold just doesn't do it for me. The premium over spot with the CML is more than that of the Krug, but less than that of the GAE.

As others have said, get one of each, then when you come into some more $BirdCageLiner, load up on the specific one you like.

It's strange that you say that...The voices in my head have been saying that all day...
So it may be a smorgasboard of silver with a pair of 1/4oz GAEs.
